oooh, what’s that strange sensation in my lower abdominals, gluts and inside-thighs? it is the feeling of actually putting the damn things to use! and boy am I!! I’ve just finished my first full week of the dance course and I bloomin love it (well duh)
I am aching in all sorts of places I didn’t know could ache from hours of dynamic movement and control, and discovering the existance of many a new muscle group through the wonderful world of pilates.
Now, for anyone who’s never done pilates, the exercises themselves probably look remarkably simple: lie on floor, lift a leg… hmm taxing huh??! Well when you realise just which muscles you are trying to activate through these exercises - the very small supporting muscle groups around your joints
etc - and actually start targeting them, my good jamlord in pectinland, it is haaarrrdcore! and bloody brilliant!
Don’t know quite why I put this pic in, I just like it!
But it’s not just a challenge physically, the modules of the course such as ‘Improvisation’ and ‘Understanding the Body’ introduce a somewhat meditative understanding of movement and awareness within your own body and the space around you. Plus of course there is learning about dance history and how the artform has progressed and deviated radically from traditional forms over the last century - there is just so much out there to see, so many exciting and dramatic ways people can express themselves and communicate in this universal language of the human body. I cant wait to increase my vocabulary

woo!
new house:
I am in the process of moving into a new house this week!! It’s very light with skylights everywhere, wooden floors, big long kitchen and a spirally wooden staircase, much unlike the one in the picture
:) I like it muchly hoorah!
.
.
new housemates:
AAANNND, I have 3 friendly housemates, two guys, one girl -
- as you can see from the picture, here are 3 people that have nothing to do with them.
I live with two graduates of Illustration degree, the other a music-productiony-type person. And they (foolishly) picked me to live with them! I didn’t even have to boycott the other applicants for the room! rock on!
new neighbourhood:
I now live in Southville in Bristol, just off the main high st which is brimming with great local shops; butchers, green grocers, non-chain bakery, organic deli healthfood shop, funky coffee shops, an olive shop (mmmmmmmmmmm) and
various pubs and bars, and then there’s the old Tobacco Factory which is a theatre-arty type place, and there’s a comedy club venue just being refurbished across the road! V.cool. And, and, and! there’s a nearby swimming pool. and I’m just the other side of the river from Hotwells, which is where my course is, and where my bro lives, huzzah!
This handy map shows you exactly where I am
new dance course - yeah I already writ plenty on that.
new phone: it’s cool, it has a screensaver that dances! and is an mp3 player!
new bed: as of friday I will have a sexy new double bed of my very own to sleep on. Thanks to the wonderful world of Freecycle! (www.freecycle.org) I have not had my own bed to sleep on (apart from at my parents’ house, thankyou thankyou, thankyou!) since I was in Brasil! many many moons ago… sigh.
