One of my objectives upon coming out to Brazil was to be inspired to put together new choreography. There are plenty of projects in the pipeline for choreo that I am writing for groups and for other people… but until recently my own repertoire had been seriously lacking some new choreo.
So…. yay! Got inspired. Lots. I have been planning and making notes and trying new things out for the past two months and now the time has come to put it all together
After many hours in front of the compooter, the soundtrack for a brand new caberet poi piece of my very own is now ready… all that’s missing is the final choreo!
I’ve planned most of the choreo already, and booked a dance studio to use over the course of next week for a total of 9 hours. Should be enough time as long as I work hard… and of course I will! I love it!!!!
I’m weirdly nervously excited about this choreo. I guess that’s because its for me! It could be really awesome… or it could fail and suck miserably (!!) I’m putting my money on the awesome outcome though. Shame I have no money. I’ll put my inexhaustible optimism on it instead. hoorah!

Imagine an atmosphere of childish playfulness, artistic inspiration, enthusiasm and collaboration and above all a spirit of freedom and fun! Then add some fire, some glitter, some hard work and lots of laughter and you will start to comprehend the joys of Feuerkunst.
Feuerkunst Berlin is a collaborative project of 40 fire-artists from around Europe, who in 2006 joined forces for one week to create a ground-breaking, innovative and ambitious piece of fire-artistry. Combining the artists’ diverse talents in theatre, dance and various forms of object manipulation, they created a piece of fire theatre on a grand scale, which was shown at the ‘Berlin Lacht’ Street Theare Festival in 2006… awesome.
… and this year they’re stepping it up a notch!
The producers of the project have lengthened the collaboration time to 11 days, introduced a director and lead-choreographer to the team in order to give the event more focus and to draw more out of the performers… have you guessed it yet?! Yes, yay woohoo! I’ve been invited to take on the role of lead choreographer for the project!
I’m really happy to have such a great oppurtunity to be such an integral part of creating a really exciting piece of artwork!

I’m not going to write a full post about my birthday frolickings at the moment, because I`m all sicky
some sort of tummy-bug that means anything I eat either comes back for another round or heads straight for the finish-line without so much as a “digest me now” pitstop… rubbish.
But this happened after my birthday, so it`s not too bad
Having my birthday on a
saturday was awesome, because I could celebrate the whole weekend!! Friday night was at a lovely restaurant by the lakeside with live jazz and amazingly good meat on the menu mmmmmm, saturday was shopping in Copacabana, then performing all night through (literally until sun-up!) at Rio’s Chemical Music Festival with the fire-troupe I`ve been working with, Trupe Coringa (”Coringa” = “jester”). Sunday was Sushi and splodging on sofa recovery day. Great birthday all in all.
(I`ve uploaded a couple of photos on flickr: Trupe Coringa )

An observation: Rio de Janeiro is teeming with beauty parlours, gyms and plastic surguries. Well, I guess it makes sense in this climate, in a city full of beaches, people reveal their
bodies more and thus care more what they look like.
But seriously! There is a limit. I read about a survey in a magazine that siad that 25% of brasilian women would trade 25% of their intelligence to be 25% more beautiful! wow.
Still, I would be hypocritical if I judged them too strongly, I know I think a lot about my appearance - definately too much!!
One good thing about it, is that the waxing here is the best ever! Not that getting smeared in sensitive areas of your body with burning hot wax and having stubbornly clinging hair violently ripped out is ever particularly fun… but at least here they are very efficient and thorough! …ouch!
—————————————————————

written/escrito 1/3/2007
phew! That was great! Started with the jogging today, along a parkland track which borders the marina and beaches of Glória, Flamengo and Botafogo. It’s beautiful! Lots of trees covered in funky looking creepers, lovely views across the bay and lots
of people jogging and exercising in the park… but boy did I sweat! When I left the house it was already 34° and steadily increasing! My face went as red as a tomato, but not because its sunburnt, just an overactive circulation! fun fun fun.

nossa!

Forgot to post this before!! - esqueci de carregar isso!!
As for the canaval in Rio, well if you can get a ticket to see the parades, wicked! Big extravagant glittery flamboyant spectacle! Other than this the city just parties in the streets with various percussion groups and cachaça and beer and costumes… well despite being in SP state for the main part of the carnaval I didn’t miss out completely! hell, the street parties have been going on sice January!! Ah yes, they know how to party here in Rio

I love this city!

yo yo yo and two to the six.
Back from festival la-la land, recovered from any sickness, seriously feeling the two-week lapse in training!! :O But this week and the start of March has brought a re-focus for my training regime. I decided I wasn’t doing enough cardio-vascular activity, so have timetabled in 3 sessions of jogging a week (early morning to avoid the melt-sweltering heat). I’ve also
started two new courses: contemporary dance at the Deborah Colker school of dance (very reputable place!!),
and solo acrobatics with Intrépida Trupe (a circus troupe)… unfortunately this has left me no time to do capoeira at the moment
but I intend to do a couple of intensive weeks on that before I return in April (which is looming ever nearer!!!)
———————————————-
