well I didn’t expect to spend canarval in this way, but it was great! 5 days in this
beautiful location in São Paulo state: dancing, juggling, poi-ing, hula-ing, staff-ing, swimming!, bouncing, laughing, getting covered in paint and glitter! drinking, chatting, meeting lovely juggly folk! Yes, twas good.
The Shows: We did a few collaborative performances with troupes from SP state, which were particularly enjoyable mostly because of the vibe of the performers. It makes such a difference when you have people who really love to perform, and are on the same wavelength. As for the shows themselves… well, the public really enjoyed them,
and we had a great time doing them…. but for me they were really lacking in cohesion and choreography.
There was some choreo, which went down really well, but for the most part it was just free-style spinning and kinda chaotic. However, the costumes and make-up were well done… (NB. the pics are of the make-up after the shows!!)
Fire Troupe and Cultural Observations: it’s interesting, in Europe it’s the other way round - the troupes normally have the choreo down, but are lacking in aesthetics, and here the performers look brilliant… but haven’t quite sorted the show out yet!! Still, it’s promising… there was a lot of enthusiasm for the little bits of choreo we did
have, and certainly creativity and desire to create more! hoorah!
There’s certainly no lack in talent out this way either, just less people who do it I think. The staff workshop I attended was great, and not just for beginners; I learnt loads of new doubles throws and combinations I’d not tried before
Plus got lots of lovely ideas from Isadora (super-amazing-bouncy-beautiful person) to dance more with hoop!
hooray! So now a trip to São Paulo is on the cards next month… I’m hoping to talk with the dude who made the troupe’s costumes too, and get a few things made up for myself

hooray! Então agora to pretendendo a ir pra São Paulo daqui a um mês… também to querendo falar com o cara quem fez todos os figurinos do equipe para pedir algumas coisas para mi mesmo

I hosted an English dinner party last night for my two students and some friends! It was lovely! I made a huuuuge pot of Cottage Pie, and a lime cheesecake (which was a bit of a weird constituency because I`m not used to the brazilian ingredients…
nothing to do with my abilities, no!). But yay hooray funfunfun!

Então, yoohoo! eu me diverti muito!

still snivelling a bit from my tropical cold (well I can at least try to make it sound exciting!), so I haven’t been training anything physically excerting for a whole week now!! shock gasp horror!! However, being ill, though thoroughly annoying and boring, has allowed me time to juggle and poi lots. Also, spending the vast majority of the day sleeping means slipping in and out of that beautiful state that forms ideas in my head for choreography and the like (hoorah!)
And the rain? yeah, there was crazy rain yesterday which looked like someone had literally upturned 50squillion buckets all at once and thrown a bit of multidirectional gale-force wind in for fun. Thought it was worth a mentio

Got carnaval coming up this week too! It’s been building up so much already with rehearsals in the street for the samba bands almost every other day, the vibe is really starting to show! So I’m off to São Paulo state on thursday (!!) what a weirdo! but, hey, it’s to perform with the juggling troupe at a carnaval festival… erm.. of electronic music hahaha, and anyway I’ll be back to enjoy the finale of all the festivities, so I get the best of both worlds
———————————-

Unbelievable! In a place that is at least 30° every day, I have managed to get a cold! Rubbish! I hate being ill! I’m all horribly headachey and.. well… rubbish! Can’t train, cant read, can’t teach English, can’t watch TV. boring boring boring.
Therefore I have added a picture of a horse sneezing. I think you can understand my logic.
…
um?

boing bounce burn…. I’ll write some more when i recover…
ok, feeling a bit more awake now! So this was my weekend
one night and one day of euphoria! wow, sounds amazing! haha! And yeah, it was! We arrived at about 3am and did our performance at about 4:30, we totally rocked! wooooooooo! Me and two other guys just did a really short set of fire-spinning, me with hoop, then poi, the others with staff or poi and fire-breathing. Short and sweet, but there was a really great vibe… and I got to do a solo at the end! woop!
So that payed for our entrance, transport, food and drink, all that was left was to enjoy the following 15 hours of partying!
The setting was beautiful, surrounded by hill/mountains which became obvious at about 5am with a beautiful sunrise. The music was intoxicating (in a good way), great company, chillout area with a swimming pool, view over the rest of the site and various bands or djs (I liked the didge players best)
I spent my time juggling with lots of people, spinning poi or staff, getting sunburned!! aiiiiii, and of course having a good bounce to the music. boing! It was actually quite different to european raves in that it was a lot less druggy and.. woah! the people there all looked so normal!! That kinda freaked me out actually! I’m so used to seeing everyone wearing crazy clothes, covered in body-p
aint, on stilts or wahtever at psy-trance parties, that I was really suprised when almost everyone looked like they could have been walking down the boulevard in ipanema!
But it was really refreshing to see that people were depending on the music and not the drugs to have a good festival
I’m looking forwards to the next one!
